Skylight, Cozi, Hearth, Mantle: which one is yours?
We respect what Skylight built. Here's what we built differently and why.
If you are searching for a Skylight Calendar alternative, you are usually one of two people. You either own a Skylight already and it has not done what you hoped, or you are about to buy one and you want to make sure there is not something better.
This page is for both of you. It is honest. We respect the company Skylight built. They proved that families want a calendar on the wall. We agreed with them on the wall. We disagreed on what the wall should do.

Where Skylight wins
Skylight is a great picture frame that also runs a calendar. If your household reads a wall calendar the way it would read a paper calendar — appointments, reminders, the occasional photo of the kids — Skylight is the right shape and a fair price.
It is also the easiest one to gift. The frame ships, plugs in, and works. The buyer experience is excellent.
Where Mantle is different
Mantle is not a frame that runs a calendar. Mantle is the family command center — a kitchen display built to run the household, not decorate it.
Three concrete differences:
- Mantle reassigns. Skylight shows a 5pm pickup. Mantle sees the 5pm pickup, sees that the partner is closer, and reassigns the pickup before the operator has to ask. The wall does the handoff.
- Mantle has no camera and no microphone. Not as a feature. As a category line. The wall watches the schedule and the door, not you.
- Mantle is built for one person inside the family. The default parent. The one currently holding the file. Most family displays are designed as if the household coordinates itself — "for the whole family" is the posture that fails. Families do not coordinate themselves; one person coordinates them. Mantle is the family command center built for that person.
Where Cozi is different from both
Cozi is a mobile app. It is not on a wall. If your household runs on phones, Cozi works. If your household needs a glanceable, ambient surface in the kitchen, Cozi cannot do that. The two are not really competitors — Cozi competes with Google Calendar; Skylight and Mantle compete with the kitchen wall itself.
Honest verdict
Buy Skylight if you want a beautiful calendar in a frame and you do not need the wall to do anything else. Buy Cozi if you want a shared family app and your household lives on phones. Buy Mantle if there is one person in your house holding the entire household together in their head, and you want that person to be able to put the file down.
Put Mantle on your wall for 30 days. If your house doesn't run quieter, send it back. We pay shipping both ways.
